Scaling Carbon Markets in CAREC: Lessons, Opportunities, and Regional Cooperation
The CAREC Secretariat, in collaboration with the Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD), held a regional workshop, “Scaling Carbon Markets in CAREC: Lessons, Opportunities, and Regional Cooperation,” on 8-9 October 2025 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The event brought together delegates from ministries of climate change, environment, finance, and regulatory agencies across the region, alongside leading experts. The discussions highlighted the critical importance of private sector engagement and regional collaboration in advancing the development of carbon markets, especially within countries where such markets are still emerging. Participants anticipated that the Asian Development Bank would address institutional capacity gaps by providing expertise on the technical requirements of international agreements and standards related to the evolution of carbon markets.
