First CAREC Transport Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting

This was the inaugural meeting of the TSCC, which is one of several sector committees under the overall institutional framework of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program.

Transport officials from countries participating in the CAREC Program (Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) as well as representatives of multilateral institutions (Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Islamic Development Bank) attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed progress made in the transport sector in the context of regional cooperation, identified the strategic priorities for the transport sector, and discussed the development of a regional transport sector road map for consideration at the Senior Officials’ Meeting scheduled for September 2004.
