First Road Working Group Meeting on Regional Cooperation in Transport Projects in Central Asia Regions

The objectives of the meeting covered the existing condition of the road, the proposed options for road improvement, and identification of trade and traffic potential.

First CAREC Ministerial Conference

The conference sought to provide guidance in prioritizing regional investment needs and in effectively mobilizing resources to finance them. It also provided a unique opportunity for concerned countries and donor agencies to discuss areas for better coordination as well as to explore new prospects for cooperation in the context of the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

More specifically, the participants discussed and confirmed (i) the priority areas ADB should concentrate on in facilitating regional cooperation, (ii) the institutional framework that would best serve implementation of the ADB program, and (iii) preparations for a Ministerial Conference scheduled 5–9 November 2001 in Urumqi, People's Republic of China.

Regional Conference on Transportation Cooperation in Central Asia

Delegations from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the People's Republic of China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan discussed ways and means to strengthen regional cooperation among their countries in the field of transportation.
