CAREC Customs officials hold 25th Annual Meeting

In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on 5 June, the CAREC Customs Cooperation Committee convened its 25th Annual Meeting in to review progress on priority customs initiatives, exchange experience, and set directions for future cooperation. This event was co-chaired by Enkhtaivan Gelegjamts, Deputy Director General of the Mongolian Customs General Administration, and Tsendsuren Davaa, Head of the Customs Consultative Committee Integrity Subcommittee. 

Participants shared the updates on national customs modernization efforts, including digitalization initiatives and smart customs programs. Also, they discussed how emerging technologies can help transform customs administration and facilitate cross-border trade. In addition, the meeting explored the building blocks of digital trade and the role of customs authorities in supporting increasingly digital and interconnected trade ecosystems. 

Delegates reviewed progress in implementing the CAREC Advanced Transit System and Information Common Exchange (CATS/ICE) and shared experiences and lessons learned from the pilot phase. They also examined findings from the latest Corridor Performance Measurement and Monitoring report, which continues to provide valuable insights into transport and trade facilitation performance along CAREC corridors. 

This meeting reaffirmed the importance of regional customs cooperation in promoting efficient, transparent, and technology-driven border management. Through continued collaboration on customs development, digital transformation, integrity, and customs services, CAREC member countries are advancing a shared agenda to facilitate trade, strengthen connectivity, and support regional economic integration.
