CAREC Countries Advance Regional Approach on Carbon Markets

In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 23–24 June 2026, senior officials and carbon market experts from across the region gathered for the 5th Meeting of the CAREC Working Group on Climate Change to chart a collaborative path toward carbon market development.

Held under the CAREC Climate Change Action Plan 2025–2027, the meeting focused on building readiness for international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Over two days, member countries mapped their readiness gaps in accessing carbon finance to promote investments in low-carbon technologies and solutions. In particular, they exchanged practical experience, drawing on lessons learned, development partners’ approaches, and the private sector’s requirements for generating carbon credits. The meeting worked toward a regional carbon market readiness plan, and participants identified joint actions to advance the development of, and access to, international carbon markets.
