CAREC Senior Officials' Meeting (September 2004)

A Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was held in Almaty on 13-14 September 2004 in preparation for the Third Ministerial Conference on CAREC  scheduled for 31 October-1 November 2004.

Delegations from countries participating in the CAREC Program (Azerbaijan, People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) as well as representatives of multilateral institutions (Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank) attended the Meeting.

Participants (i) discussed the progress made since the Second Ministerial Conference on CAREC held in November 2003 in Tashkent; (ii) reported on the sector outcomes in each of the priority areas of energy, trade facilitation, trade policy, and transport; (iii) made recommendations on certain issues for ministerial consideration and guidance; and (iv) discussed preparations for the Third Ministerial Conference.
