Regional Workshop on FinTech Development in the CAREC Region
Tbilisi, Georgia – February 21-22, 2023, Fintech experts and enthusiasts from across the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) region gathered in Tbilisi, Georgia, for the 2024 Regional Fintech Workshop. Hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with the CAREC Institute, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and the National Bank of Georgia, this two-day event aimed to foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration in the realm of financial technology.
The workshop brought together a diverse participation of 78 participants representing the National Bank of Georgia and delegates from 10 CAREC member states. Their collective expertise spanned regulatory frameworks, technological innovation, and financial inclusion.
The heart of the workshop lay in igniting a robust policy dialogue. Attendees explored topics such as mutual recognition agreements, bridging infrastructure gaps, and digitization strategies. These discussions aimed to pave the way for a harmonized approach to fintech development across the region.
Recognizing the critical role of collaboration, participants emphasized the need for cross-border cooperation. By sharing best practices and aligning efforts, they aimed to accelerate fintech innovation and enhance financial services accessibility. Economic growth and inclusion were also highlighted at the event, wherein crafting policies that promote economic growth and financial connectivity was a central theme. The workshop underscored how Fintech can empower underserved populations and contribute to inclusive digital growth.
Participants departed with renewed commitment to drive fintech advancements in the CAREC region. The workshop’s outcomes will ripple through financial institutions, startups, and policymakers, shaping a more resilient and tech-savvy financial landscape.
