Chief Negotiators launched the first round of CARTIF negotiations virtually

On 7 September 2026, the CAREC Trade and Investment Facilitation Partnership (CARTIF) Chief Negotiators and focal points met virtually to launch the first round of negotiations on CARTIF Agreement. The meeting aims to reaffirm participating countries’ strong commitment to advancing regional economic integration through a structured and results-oriented negotiation process.
This online event was focused on achieving concrete outcomes to advance the CARTIF process. Participants also reviewed progress to date and considered the Framework Agreement.
Following the launch, the Working Group on Dispute Settlement convened online to begin negotiations on draft Protocol X. facilitated by the Advisory Centre on World Trade Organization Law. Discussions moved from technical and drafting matters to substantive issues with varying levels of divergence. As a result, participants established a common understanding and reached agreement on key positions.
The next online meeting of the Chief Negotiators will be held in October, with a view to finalizing discussions on the Framework Agreement.
