On 20 November 2025, the 24th CAREC Ministerial Conference endorsed two deliverables jointly developed by the CAREC Working Group on Health and the CAREC Working Group on Climate Change:
  • A Strategy for Healthcare Decarbonization in the CAREC Region (2026–2030)
  • Regionally-Agreed Minimum Requirements for Climate-Resilient Health Facilities
These commitments signal a strong regional push to reduce carbon emissions in healthcare systems while ensuring health facilities can withstand climate-related shocks. Ministers emphasized that decarbonization and resilience are critical for safeguarding health services and achieving sustainable development goals.
By adopting these forward-looking measures, CAREC countries have set the stage for greener, more resilient health systems that protect communities and promote sustainability. The endorsed strategy and standards will guide investments, policy reforms, and capacity-building efforts, marking a milestone in the region’s journey toward climate-smart healthcare.
