Energy Sector Development Investment Program, Tranche 3

The project will increase generation capacity in Gereshk, an economic center in Helmand province, by upgrading a hydropower plant. It will replace 10 kilometers of 3.3 kilovolt (kV) distribution lines with 20 kV lines, and install new end-user meters. The project will also enhance operations of the power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat.

Western Regional Road Corridor Development Program, Tranche I

The program will construct over 290 kilometers of roads and improve connecting local roads in Mongolia’s remote western region, build and equip road maintenance units, and provide training and capacity development.

Road Network Development Program, Tranche 3

Under the third tranche of the multitranche financing facility, the project will build two sections of the four-lane expressway between Masalli and Astara on the southern corridor. It will also rehabilitate access roads.

CAREC Corridor I (Taraz Bypass) Project

The project is a vital part of a broader government investment program to improve over 2,700 kilometers of roads along the CAREC Corridor 1, which passes through Kazakhstan from the People's Republic of China, all the way to the Russian Federation's western border.

Transport Network Development Investment Program, Tranche 1

The first tranche of the program will improve 145 kilometers (km) of roads, and support the operation and maintenance of a new 75-km railway line and additional facilities between Hairatan and Mazar-e-Sharif. It will improve management of the transport sector and deliver a revised national road and rail transport plan.

CAREC Corridor 6 (Marakand–Karshi) Railway Electrification Project

The project will increase regional trade opportunities and accelerate the economic growth of Uzbekistan through improved railway operations between Marakand and Karshi.

Regional Power Interconnection Project

The Regional Power Interconnection Project will address electric supply needs in Afghanistan and electric infrastructure development and export plans in Turkmenistan. The technical assistance will prepare the project for consideration by Asian Development Bank and other financiers.

Second CAREC Corridor 2 Road Investment Program 2, Tranche 1

The first tranche of the program will rehabilitate a 74-kilometer section of a highway running through the Fergana Valley, where a third of all Uzbeks live and a large proportion of the country's agricultural goods are produced. It will also improve road safety and asset management.

CAREC Transport Corridor I (Bishkek–Torugart Road) Project 3

The project will improve the 60-kilometer section from At Beit to Torugart at the border with the People's Republic of China. It will also strengthen infrastructure management skills of government staff engaged in the road sector.

Railway Electrification Investment Program

The technical assistance will fine tune the feasibility study prepared by Uzbekistan Temir Yullari (UTY), aided by a consortium of Japan and national consultants, and undertake due diligence for the project for electrification of the existing railway line from Marakand to Karshi.

CAREC Corridor 2 Road Investment Program, Tranche 2

Tranche 2 of the program will finance the rehabilitation of about 85 kilometers of the A380 highway, which forms part of the CAREC Corridor 2. It will also improve road planning.

North–South Railway Project

The project will increase regional trade by improving Turkmenistan's accessibility to Kazakhstan, the Persian Gulf countries, the Russian Federation, and South Asia, through better connectivity with neighboring countries.

CAREC Corridor 2 Road Investment Program 2

The technical assistance is necessary to complete the due diligence in safeguards, economic and financial, and poverty and social areas for the proposed multi-tranche financing facility (MFF).

CAREC Transport Corridor 1 (Zhambyl Oblast Section) Investment Program, Tranche 4

The fourth project will upgrade a 49-kilometer section of the highway in Zhambyl Oblast. This will be part of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Transport Corridor 1, running from Khorgos city through Almaty and Shymkent to the Russian Federation's western border.

CAREC – Transport and Trade Facilitation: Border Crossing Point Improvement and Single Window Development Project

The project will support national single window (NSW) development in selected CAREC member countries and develop a regional platform for the networking of NSWs for the CAREC region through public–private partnerships and the establishment of the Alliance of National Single Window Operators of CAREC.

CAREC Corridor 3 (Dushanbe–Uzbekistan Border) Improvement Project

The project will increase national and regional trade, and further economic growth due to improved connectivity and mobility along the Tajikistan sections of CAREC Corridor 3.

Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Natural Gas Pipeline, Project 2

The technical assistance will finance the participation of consultants for 10th to 12th Technical Working Group meetings as well as hold separate buyers and sellers meeting, to resolve issues to finalize the Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement.

Road Network Development Investment Program, Tranche 2

The program’s second tranche will rehabilitate 90 kilometers of the Qaisar–Bala Murghab section of the Herat–Andkhoy road and construct approximately 143 kilometers of the Bala Murghab–Laman section. The project will also improve communities' access to social services and basic infrastructure.

Power Sector Rehabilitation Project

The project preparatory technical assistance, in preparation for the ensuing Power Sector Rehabilitation Project, will undertake necessary due diligence and assist pre-implementation activities.

Regional Logistics Development Project

The project will establish a multimodal transport system and equip the new terminal with modern customs and quarantine facilities. The management of the logistics facility will be contracted out to a private operator.
