CAREC Corridor 3 (Dushanbe–Uzbekistan Border) Improvement Project
Summary
The project will upgrade a vital road linking the capital Dushanbe with the Uzbekistan border. The road is part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Corridor 3 that spans almost 7,000 kilometers from the Russian Federation in the north to the Persian Gulf in the south. The 62-km highway passes through two major economic areas - the Gissar Valley and the town of Tursunzade.
Expected Outcome
The project will increase national and regional trade, and further economic growth due to improved connectivity and mobility along the Tajikistan sections of CAREC Corridor 3.
Expected Outputs
- Reconstructed and upgraded road sections from Dushanbe to Tursunzade, and further to the Uzbekistan border (km 5–km 62).
- Facilities at the Dusti border-crossing point improved.
- Tapped a reliable power source
- Customs buildings built.
- New information technology installed at the border point.
