National Focal Points Meeting on CAREC Institute

CAREC national focal points (NFPs) discussed the establishment of a physical base of the CAREC Institute in Urumqi, People’s Republic of China.

The meeting was chaired by ADB Central and West Asia Department (CWRD) Director General Klaus Gerhaeusser and East Asia Department (EARD) Director General Ayumi Konishi.

NFPs discussed and endorsed a discussion paper that presents guiding principles and the organization framework for the CAREC Institute.

At the 11th Ministerial Conference on CAREC, CAREC ministers agreed to establish a physical base for the CAREC Institute to perform its role effectively as a knowledge resource center.

As one of the operational priorities of CAREC 2020, the CAREC Institute was envisioned to play a key role in addressing the specific needs of the priority sectors: transport, trade facilitation, energy, and trade policy.

The CAREC Institute is mandated to work directly with sector coordinating committees.
