First GMS-CAREC Joint Energy Meeting

Energy officials from the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program convened in Guangzhou, the People’s Republic of China from 24 to 28 November, for their first joint engagement, an important milestone toward a more interconnected and sustainable Asian power system. Following internal sessions, a joint roundtable discussed interconnection, renewable integration, and energy reforms. Study visits hosted by China Southern Grid showcased HVDC transmission, pumped-storage hydropower, and digital grid management. Participants highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration, noting that this initial meeting lays the groundwork for deeper knowledge exchange and future joint projects.
