CAREC Senior Officials' Meeting (June 2011)
More than 100 participants attended the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), representing delegations from the 10 CAREC member countries and six multilateral institutions. They were involved in
- reviewing the proposed draft 10-year strategic framework for CAREC (CAREC 2020) and other planned 10-year commemorative activities;
- discussing a concept for a pilot study on the development of CAREC corridors to economic corridors;
- exchanging views on the CAREC Institute work plan;
- assessing progress in the priority sectors of energy, transport, trade facilitation, and trade policy;
- considering the 2010 CAREC development effectiveness review; and
- discussing the preparations for the 10th CAREC Ministerial Conference.
Azerbaijan’s Head of Administration of the Ministry of Economic Development Samir Veliyev acted as the SOM chair. Assisting the chair in moderating the discussions were Asian Development Bank’s Juan Miranda and Werner Liepach, director general and deputy director general of the Central and West Asia Department; and Sean O’Sullivan, deputy director general, Strategy and Policy Department.
