Capacity Building under the CAREC Energy Sector Work Plan - Regional Training Program on New Technologies
Twenty-one delegates from 11 countries participated in the 4-day study tour in Melbourne, Tasmania, and Canberra.
The objectives were to (i) see specific demonstration projects (renewable energy, storage and energy efficiency), and (ii) understand the regulatory challenges and quality and reliability aspects of new clean energy technologies.
The CAREC delegates visited Tesla Australia for demonstration of electric vehicles, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) for government perspectives on regulations, King Island and Flinders Island for renewable energy systems, and Canberra for a presentation and visit to a battery testing facility.
The study tour also included an Energy Sector Steering Committee meeting wherein the delegates agreed on the work plan and deadlines for 2017 which include the following:
- Energy Sector Coordinating Committee and Energy Investment Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan,
- off-grid solar workshop in Dushanbe and Ashgabat in Tajikistan,
- off-grid training in the Republic of Korea, and
- the creation of a private Facebook group for CAREC delegates.
