Xinjiang Municipal Infrastructure and Environmental Improvement Project

Summary

ADB is helping the People's Republic of China (PRC) improve infrastructure, address environmental concerns, and promote sustainable growth in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The project focuses on three areas - Alashankou, a major trade and transport hub on the border with Kazakhstan, the Kanas scenic region, and Yining City.

Expected Outcome

The project will contribute to sustained socioeconomic growth and improved living standards in Altay Administrative District, Boertala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, and Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture—border areas of northern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Expected Outputs

Component 1: Yining City Roads and Municipal Services

  • Four new main roads and upgraded local roads opened to traffic and related municipal services operational
  • Newly built and procured environmental sanitation facilities and equipment operational.
Component 2. Alashankou land port municipal infrastructure and environmental protection
  • New roads opened to traffic
  • New water treatment plant and associated facilities operational
  • New wastewater treatment plant and associated sewer network operational
  • New heating supply works operational
  • New environmental sanitation and solid waste treatment facilities operational
  • Ecological protective forests completed
Component 3. Kanas scenic region infrastructure and environmental protection
  • New village roads and village parking areas opened to traffic
  • New water supply system operational
  • New wastewater treatment system operational
  • New environmental sanitation and solid waste treatment facilities operational
  •  Vegetation recovery completed
