Regional Cooperation in Transport Projects in Central Asia
Summary
The technical assistance (TA) supports the CAREC program in transport by assessing two key regional cooperation projects involving the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan. The projects are: (i) improvement of the Andizhan-Osh-Irkeshtan road, and extension road in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, PRC; and (ii) construction of a PRC-Kyrgyz Republic-Uzbekistan railway.
Expected Outcome
The expected outcome was to facilitate cooperation among the participating countries of PRC, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan to develop regional transport projects.
Expected Outputs
The project was delivered in two parts: the road improvement study was completed successfully by June 2004, while the railway study was subject to a number of delays and completed by January 2006
