CAREC Regional Road Project

The project will improve 131 kilometers of the A-380 highway, a 1,204 kilometer road that runs from the Kazakh border in Uzbekistan's north toward Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in the south. It will also help strengthen government’s operation and maintenance of the road network.

Regional Power Transmission Interconnection Project (Tajikistan Component)

The project will enhance transmission interconnectivity in the power sector between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. It will increase power export and income generation capacity of Tajikistan, and restore power supply and reduce costs for consumers in Afghanistan.

Capacity Development for Regional Cooperation in the People’s Republic of China and Mongolia

The intended impact of the regional technical assistance is to strengthen the institutional and human capacity for regional cooperation of the governments of the People’s Republic of China and Mongolia.

Integrated Trade Facilitation Support for CAREC

The technical assistance supported the implementation of the trade facilitation aspects of CAREC’s Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy, a key feature of which is to concentrate trade facilitation reforms along the designated CAREC transport corridors.

Silk Road Ecosystem Restoration Project

The technical assistance (TA) will help the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in preparing an investment proposal for improving the environment of degraded or at-risk ecological areas along the Silk Road route in Gansu and Shaanxi Provinces and in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Xinjiang Regional Road Improvement Project (Korla–Kuqa Section)

The project will improve the east-west road transport corridor by upgrading the Korla-Kuqa section of the national highway as well as the local road network and road connection to neighboring countries.

Customs Development Project

The project will reform and modernize the customs administration of Kazakhstan, by promoting internationally acceptable practices for processing of international trade flows, improving revenue collection, and reducing potential for corruption.

The project will improve 263 kilometers of the 550-kilometer road corridor linking the People's Republic of China, Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan. It will also upgrade border infrastructure and prepare the cross-border agreement among these countries to facilitate regional trade and transport.

Cross-Border Agreement among the Kyrgyz Republic, People’s Republic of China, and Tajikistan

The technical assistance (TA) helped prepare a cross border agreement (CBA) between the PRC, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan to facilitate smooth regional trade and traffic.

Road Maintenance Development Project

The project will finance the procurement of road maintenance equipment by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to carry out essential maintenance work on the road network of Tajikistan.

Road Network Development Program, Tranche 1

The first project under the multitranche financing facility will construct a 22.1 kilometer expressway between Masalli and Astara on the southern corridor, rehabilitate local roads in the project area and along East-West highway, install vehicle weighing stations in selected locations, and provide project support and capacity building.

Road Network Development Project I (Bala Murghab to Leman)

The project will build the 143 kilometer section from Bala Murghab to Leman. The new all-weather road will link northern Afghanistan with the country's western region. It will help cut travel times and transport costs.
