South–West Roads: Western Europe–Western China International Transit Corridor (CAREC 1b and 6b)

The objective of the South West Roads Project for Western Europe–Western China International Transit Corridor (CAREC-1B and 6B) is to improve transport efficiency along road sections in Kyzylorda, South Kazakhstan and Almaty Oblasts, improve road management, and increase traffic safety in Kazakhstan.

Ujar-Zardab-Aghdjabedi Highway Construction

Railway Development Study

The technical assistance will carry out technical, social, environmental, financial, and economic assessments for two major routes: (i) from Hairatan at the border with Uzbekistan to Herat in the west via Mazar-e-Sharif, and (ii) from Shirkhan Bendar at the border with Tajikistan via Kunduz to Naibabad joining Mazar-e-Sharif to Herat.

Power Distribution Development Investment Program

The technical assistance aims to set out a financing framework agreement and an investment program that is economically, financially, and technically feasible, and socially and environmentally acceptable.

Supplementary Financing for Regional Power Energy Network

The project will provide supplementary for the Regional Power Transmission Interconnection Project in Tajikistan.

Border Management in Central Asia, Phase 7

The Border Management Assistance Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) is an integrated, multifaceted intervention with a developmental and institution building approach. BOMCA aims to increase the effectiveness of borders whilst fostering security, stability and development in Central Asian states.

Building Energy Efficiency Project

The project will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the transformation of the Mongolian buildings market towards more energy-efficient building technologies and services, sustainable private house insulation and energy efficiency financing mechanisms.

Construction of Bereket–Etrek–Turkmenistan–Iran Border Railway

The project includes construction of the railway lines, nine stations as well as a locomotive transfer and maintenance depots in Etrek and Bereket, and purchase of locomotives and railway equipment construction and maintenance.

Energy-Efficient Design and Construction of Residential Buildings

The goal of this project is to decrease greenhouse gas emissions from new residential buildings by transforming practices and markets in the building sector of Kazakhstan towards more energy-efficient design and construction.

Growing Inclusive Markets in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States

The project will foster partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders to facilitate development of inclusive markets – markets that involve poor as producers, suppliers and wage employees (on supply side) and as customers and users of affordable goods and services (on demand side).

Procurement of Two Oil Tankers

The Islamic Development Bank approved financing for procurement of two large capacity oil tankers. Built in one of Russia's oldest and largest shipyards, the two river-sea tankers, with a capacity of 7 tons each, will transport oil and oil products.

Reconstruction of Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart Road Project

The project will improve a 92-kilometer long segment of an existing two-lane road.

Reconstruction of Kulyab–Khalaikum Road

Reconstruction of South Kazakhstan Region Border to Taraz City: Western Europe–Western China Road Corridor

The project involves reconstruction of 58 kilometers (km) of road stretching from South Kazakhstan Region border to Taraz City.

Strengthening Early Recovery Capacities in Tajikistan

The main objective of this project is to contribute to addressing the underlying causes and mitigating the negative effects of the current compound (i.e. water, energy, food insecurity and disaster risk) crisis affecting Tajikistan.

Support for Urban Search/Rescue

UNDP Tajikistan managed a series of capacity building projects to build search and rescue (SAR) capacities. UNDP and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) constructed a SAR training field and other training facilities in Dushanbe to enhance the practical training for rescuers.

Support to National Disaster Risk Response

The purpose of the project is an increased capacity of the disaster management with regard to disaster response preparedness of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan.

CAREC Transport Corridor I (Zhambyl Oblast Section) Investment Program, Project 1

The first project will reconstruct 125 kilometers of the highway between Taraz and Korday in Zhambyl Oblast. This will be part of the CAREC Transport Corridor I, running from Khorgos city through Almaty and Shymkent to the Russian Federation's western border.

Energy Sector Development Investment Program, Tranche 1

The project will rehabilitate gas fields in Sheberghan, build a 220-kilovolt transmission line from Kunduz to Taloqan, and develop distribution systems in Kunduz and Baghlan.

Road Network Development Investment Program, Tranche 1

The investment program will increase Afghanistan's road network connectivity and quality by promoting, and providing financing for the road improvement and institutions development component of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy.
