Improved Management of Shared Water Resources in Central Asia
Summary
The technical assistance (TA) – Asian Development Bank’s first regional initiative in Central Asia that helped to depoliticize regional water discussions – aimed to achieve sustainable and efficient water management in the region.
Expected Outcome
The expected outcome was strengthened cooperation among the Central Asia Republic (CARs) in addressing issues related to management of shared water resources.
Expected Outputs
Main outputs were planned to be achieved through implementation of three components:
- improving trans-boundary water management on a pilot basis;
- facilitating regional water policy discussions with focus on the 1998 Syrdarya Agreement; and
- strengthening the capacity of regional water management institutions.
