Dushanbe–Kyrgyz Border Road Rehabilitation Project, Phase II
Summary
The project involves
- rehabilitation and improvement of the two-lane central and border sections of the Dushanbe–Kyrgyz Border Road and certain rural roads (i.e., km 140–km 150 section, km 150–km 200 section, km 200–km 217 section, 12-km section adjacent to the Tajikistan–Kyrgyz border, and approximately 60 kilometers [km] of rural roads in the project area);
- procurement of road maintenance equipment and vehicle weighing systems;
- provision of consulting services for project management and supervision, auditing services, and training Ministry of Transport’s Accounting Department; and
- provision of consulting services on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted illnesses prevention, migration, and other social and environmental impacts (this subcomponent is grant financed).
Expected Outcome
The project will help increase trade in Central Asia and economic growth in the Rasht Valley and Dushanbe. It will improve and create sustainable regional and national road networks.
Expected Outputs
- Sections of the Dushanbe–Kyrgyz Border Road and rural roads rehabilitated and improved.
- Road maintenance equipment and vehicle weighing systems procured.
- Project management and capacity of the Ministry of Transport improved.
- Awareness and prevention campaign delivered on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted illnesses.
