CAREC Corridor I (Bishkek-Torugart Road), Phase 1
Summary
The project will upgrade a 39-kilometer section of the Bishkek–Torugart Road that links the Kyrgyz Republic with the People's Republic of China and other Central Asian countries. It will also improve border-crossing facilities at the Torugart border.
Expected Outcome
The project will reduce transport costs and foster trade and tourism between the Kyrgyz Republic and People's Republic of China.
Expected Outputs
- Improved 39 km road stretch from km 400 to km 439 (within Char Pass–Ak Beit Pass section).
- Modernized customs infrastructure at the Kyrgyz Republic–PRC border crossing to Torugart.
- Strengthened capacity in construction supervision, monitoring and evaluation.
- Transport sector master plan (2010–2025) adopted by the government and a fully operational Bishkek–Torugart Road Corridor Management Department.
