Support to the Advisory Group on Railway Sector Development

As part of the Afghanistan National Railway Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan wishes to expedite the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif to Herat railway line (the MHR), which would connect with the existing Mazar-i-Shari to Hairatan railway line, and the Herat to Senghan line being constructed in phases, to form a continuous transit route between Central Asia and the Middle East/South Asia through Afghanistan.

Preparing the CAREC Corridors 1 and 3 Bishkek Northern Bypass Road Project

This road improvement will contribute to regional cooperation through (i) linking the CAREC Corridors 1 and 3; (ii) providing global connectivity to the Bishkek FEZ and Dordoy Bazaar; and (iii) linking ABEC with Bishkek-Osh Road and Bishkek-Torugart Road.

East–West Highway (Khevi–Ubisa Section) Improvement Project

The proposed project will improve the Khevi–Ubisa section and improve operations and maintenance of the road network, as well as road safety

CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project, Phase 4

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will assess the condition of the structures likely to be affected by construction of the Bishkek–Kara–Balta section of the project road under the CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project.

Floating Solar Energy Development

The proposed knowledge and support technical assistance aims to pilot test and build expertise on the emerging floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) technology to diversify the energy mix, increase energy security, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Preparing the North-South Corridor (Kvesheti–Kobi) Road Project

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will help the Government of Georgia prepare the proposed ensuing North-South Corridor (Kvesheti–Kobi) Road Project.

Implementing the CAREC 2030 Strategy for Sustainable Regional Development

The regional knowledge and support technical assistance will support the implementation of the CAREC 2030 strategy to enhance CAREC's role as a regional cooperation platform to connect people, policies, and projects for shared and sustainable development.

Regional Road Development and Maintenance Project

Preparing the CAREC Corridors 2, 3, and 5 (Obigarm–Nurobod) Road Project

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will help the Government of Georgia prepare the proposed ensuing CAREC Corridors 2, 3, and 5 (Obigarm–Nurobod) Road Project.

Preparing the CAREC 2, 3, and 6 (Turkmenabat–Mary–Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi) Railway Modernization Projects

The Government of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Railway Transport have requested assistance from the Asian Development Bank for a program to modernize railways in Turkmenistan. The transaction technical assistance facility will provide project preparation support and capacity building to these ensuing projects.

CAREC Corridors 2, 5, and 6 (Dushanbe–Kurgonteppa) Road Project, Additional Financing

The overall project will improve the connectivity between the capital Dushanbe and Kurgonteppa, which are two major cities and economic hubs in Tajikistan, and enhance the safety of the national highway network.

Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade

The technical assistance will support the CAREC Common Agenda for the Modernization of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures for Trade by (i) creating national bodies in each country and a regional body to lead the modernization process; (ii) developing regulations, procedures, and requirements that are aligned with international standards; and (iii) improving the capability of border agencies to implement these measures at selected common borders.

Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade

Almaty–Bishkek Economic Corridor Support

The proposed regional knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) will support the implementation of the pilot cross-border economic corridor around Almaty and Bishkek within the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program.

Uzbekistan: Power Generation Efficiency Improvement Project

The project will construct two units of 450 MW energy efficient combined cycle gas turbines at the Talimarjan Thermal Power Plant located in Kashkadarya region, contributing to energy saving, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and reliable power supply in Uzbekistan.

Qaisar–Dari Bum Road Project

The objective of the project is to help the Government of Afghanistan to promote economic and social development and reduce poverty by rehabilitating the primary road network damaged during two decades of conflict and neglect.

Railway Sector Development Program

This program preparatory technical assistance will prepare a comprehensive policy matrix for the policy-based loan—covering institutional changes at Azerbaijan Railways and in the railways sector.

Railway Sector Development Program

The program will provide project financing for the rehabilitation of the track and structure of the Sumgayit–Yalama rail line—a key link in the North–South Railway Corridor within the CAREC network.

CAREC Corridor Development Investment Program, Tranche 1

The project proposed for financing is building an additional 2-lane carriageway of 66 kilometers (km) along the existing 2-lane carriageway of Petaro–Sehwan road; an additional 2-lane carriageway of 43 km along the existing 2-lane carriageway of Ratodero–Shikarpur road; rehabilitating the existing 34-km 4-lane carriageway of Dara Adamkhel–Peshawar road; and developing the capacity of the National Highway Authority through due diligence advisory services and assistance with project implementation.

Railway Efficiency Improvement Project

The project aims to improve the efficiency of Uzbekistan's railway operations, combining investments where it faces operational bottlenecks (e.g. electric locomotives), and strategic support to improve business practices.
