International Seminar on Road Development in Tajikistan
Government officials, development partners, and representatives from the private sector and civil society attended the seminar, titled “Towards Efficient Road Transport”, to review and analyze the development of the road transport system in Tajikistan. The seminar focused on
- Tajikistan’s policy and strategy for road sector development,
- plans for the introduction of toll roads, and
- trade and connectivity issues in Central Asia.
Tajikistan’s Transport Sector Master Plan was presented to highlight the Government’s investment priorities in the short, medium, and longer term. The master plan was developed with technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank to support improvement of the country’s transport system.
The seminar also learned from the transport experience of other countries through discussion of
- the transport strategy of the CAREC Program,
- Spain’s experience with public-private partnerships for road maintenance programs, and
- toll road development in Japan and the People’s Republic of China.
The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Tajikistan, ADB, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
