CAREC Energy Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting

23-25 May 2011: Baku, Azerbaijan

Delegates from nine of ten CAREC member countries—host country Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—attended the meeting to

  • be updated on the implementation of the CAREC Energy Action Plan;
  • discuss and agree on the subcommittee work program among the participating countries; and
  • share experiences and enhance capacities on system planning and operation software, regional metering systems, and carbon finance mechanisms.

Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Islamic Development Bank, and the World Bank, along with other international energy and water experts, participated in the meeting.

The meeting was opened by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Abbasov. The sessions were moderated by representatives of Azerbaijan, ADB, and the World Bank.
