Summary:The technical assistance (TA) - Asian Development Bank's first regional initiative in Central Asia that helped to depoliticize regional water discussions - aimed to achieve sustainable and efficient water management in the region.
Expected Outcome:The expected outcome was strengthened cooperation among the Central Asia Republic (CARs) in addressing issues related to management of shared water resources.
Expected Outputs:Main outputs were planned to be achieved through implementation of three components:
  • improving trans-boundary water management on a pilot basis;
  • facilitating regional water policy discussions with focus on the 1998 Syrdarya Agreement; and
  • strengthening the capacity of regional water management institutions.
