Summary:

This project is the second tranche of the multitranche financing facility for Afghanistan's Road Network Development Investment Program. It provides supplementary financing for cost overruns resulting from price changes under the Qaisar–Bala Murghab Road Project and the Bala–Murghab–Laman Road Project.

The project includes

  • rehabilitation of the 90 kilometers (km) Qaisar–Bala Murghab section of Herat–Andkhoy road, and
  • construction of the approximately 143 km Bala Murghab–Laman section.
Expected Outcome:The investment program will increase Afghanistan’s road network connectivity and quality by promoting, and providing financing for the road improvement and institutions development component of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy.
Expected Outputs:
  • Rehabilitated 90 km Qaisar–Bala Murghab section of Herat–Andkhoy road; and
  • new 143 km Bala Murghab–Laman section.
