Road Network Development Project 1 (Bala Murghab to Leman)

Summary:The project will build the 143 kilometer section from Bala Murghab to Leman. The new all-weather road will link northern Afghanistan with the country's western region. It will help cut travel times and transport costs.
Expected Outcome:The project will contribute to the growth of Afghanistan’s domestic and international trade due to higher levels of mobility and supply of intercity, inter-provincial, and international transport services; increased levels of service on critical road sections; and increased service life of the regional road network.
Expected Outputs:
  • Approximately 143 km road between Bala Murghab and Leman constructed;
  • ancillary and emergency rehabilitation and improvement works completed;
  • routine maintenance on roads improved under previous projects; and
  • strengthened efficiency of the Ministry of Public Works with installed management information system.
